Library Services: Information for Community Borrowers

Find answers to some common questions below.

How do I...?

How do I get a library card?

Members of the public who reside in the college region, are 16 years of age or older, and are not current students, faculty, or staff are eligible to obtain a Community Borrower card. This privilege is offered free of charge. Proof of address, along with photo identification are required for registration as a Community Borrower.

How do I borrow materials?

Simply present your Community Borrower card, along with the items you wish to borrow, at the NIC Library service desk.

Community Borrowers may borrow books only and are limited to five items at a time. Loan periods are two weeks, with a maximum of two renewals.

Fines are applied to overdue items. For details, please see Loans, Limits, & Fines.

How do I place a hold on a book or video?

Holds can be placed on most books and videos in the collection. Exceptions include reference materials and course reserves.

Search our collection online. Once you have located the title you are interested in, click on "Retrieve Catalogue Item" found to the left of the item record. This will take you to another catalogue record for the same title. Click on "Place Hold" which is also found to the left of the item record. The next screen will prompt you to enter your NIC library card number, PIN, and your preferred campus pick-up location. Items being transferred from one campus to another can take a couple of days. You will receive an email notification when you item is ready to pick up.

NOTE: If you do not know your PIN, please contact NIC Library staff for assistance.

How do I renew my materials online?

First, log into My Account by entering your NIC Library card number and PIN in the top right corner of this page. Once logged in, you can view your due dates, renew items, and view any fines you may have.

NOTE: If you do not know your PIN, please contact NIC Library staff for assistance.
